Stefano di Blasi Ripalti Organic 2020
Tasting notes:
This wine is a particularly special one for me, as it comes from a collaboration between myself and Ray O’Connor. We decided we wanted to give Fine Wine Club members the chance to taste a true Merlot from the coast of Tuscany, taking inspiration from one of the world’s most famous Super Tuscans, Tua Rita Redigaffi. It’s a wine that has received astronomical ratings and reviews, but in order to taste it, you have to pay over £200 for a bottle.

Stefano di Blasi Ripalti Organic 2020
By Stefano di BlasiTasting notes: Suvereto’s best performing varieties are Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with the sea breeze making the traditional flavours of blackberry and blueberry even more intense and jammy. The tannins are soft and smooth from the beginning of the aging process, making the wine very easy to approach at the same time as being very rich.
Drinking window: From now to eternity… It is a very long aging wine but ready to drink now.
Serving suggestions: Open/decant 30 minutes before serving.
Food pairing: A typical food pairing is “Peposo" which is a stewed beef with a lot of black pepper (Pepe-peposo). But a good veggie combination could be with "Melanzane alla parmigiana” or "Parmigiana eggplants", aubergine layered with a tomato sauce and parmesan.
Notes from the Winemaker: This wine is a special one, coming from a collaboration between myself and Ray O’Connor - we wanted to show to Fine Wine Club members a pure Merlot from the coast of Tuscany just like Tua Rita Redigaffi, which comes from the next vineyard over from the vineyard we used to make Ripalti.
It’s a small appellation that has been quickly gaining a reputation for its high quality reds. When we started the project for Naked Wines Suvereto was not a DOC, but now it is! For this reason Ripalti is not labeled a Suvereto DOC, but as an IGT Toscana Rosso.
Suvereto, just like Bolgheri, has a generous climate bringing grapes to complete ripening. This is the result of the region’s long growing season - it starts almost a month before the rest of Tuscany and ends almost a month after.
The vineyard is handpicked and all the grapes are destemmend and cooled down to 5°C for a 48 hours cold soak. Maceration is maximum 14 days and fermentation is controlled at 24°C. All these operations are to preserve the primary fruit expression. After racking the wine goes straight into 400 liter barrels. We use 50% new French oak.
Godello Para Muestra Un Botón 2020
Tasting notes:
It’s with great pride that my family and I present you with our Para Muestra Un Botón. It comes from El Bierzo, a very small region in the northwest of Spain, which has been steadily making a name for itself over the last decade for the extraordinary quality of its wines and their distinctive character. The combination of El Bierzo’s old vines (some of our grapes come from vines that are nearing a century in age), the Mediterranean microclimate, the considerable rainfall and scorching summer temperatures, makes it a totally unique region.

Godello Para Muestra Un Botón 2020
By Benito OteroTasting notes: Para Muestra un Botón is characterised by a pale greenish yellow colour, very clean and bright. The nose is intense with stone and white fruit aromas, citrus notes and a mineral background, revealing its time spent in oak barrels. On the palate it is surprisingly fresh, with good acidity. Very broad, structured and ever so slightly sweet - it’s a very versatile wine.
Drinking window: This is an excellent wine for cellaring that you can keep it lying down for as long as you can resist. It will only improve with time!
Serving suggestions: Best served lightly chilled, allowing the flavours to unfurl in the glass. Decanting is also recommended before serving, but not essential.
Food pairing: Quite simply, there isn’t a correct answer. Perhaps with a good baked fish, or a white meat cooked on the grill... But really, the only essential is that you enjoy this wine in good company.
Notes from the Winemaker: With great enthusiasm and affection, we present our wine Para Muestra Un Botón. It comes from Bierzo; a small region in the northwest of Spain, which is gradually getting global recognition for its high quality wines. With its centenary vineyards, Mediterranean microclimate, mountainous 2,000m altitude, considerable rainfall and very high temperatures (-5 in winter, +35 in summer) - El Bierzo a unique region.
We are located in the heart of this region and use our own organic vineyards, which are worked manually without the use of machinery (harvesting, pruning, etc.). I am a third generation winemaker - it's a profession that I proudly inherited from my father and grandfather.
Para Muestra Un Botón is made from 100% Godello white grapes, our variety par excellence in El Bierzo. A fresh grape, with a very good acidity, structured and different. After fermentation in French oak barrels, the juice remains in contact with the wood for 9 months under its lees. Subsequently, it is bottled, remaining for a minimum of 12 months to evolve in the bottle.
With a gold or golden color, this wine reveals its age and its stay in oak barrels. The nose is broad, with a high intensity where we can appreciate small sweet notes, ripe fruit such as peach or plum... in addition to highlighting those notes of bakery or pastry, which betrays its aging on lees. The palate is fresh, floral, with soft touches of wood that are very subtle. It’s broad, structured and can even be sweet.
This is an excellent wine for cellaring - you can keep it in the cellar for as long as you can/want as it only improves with time. The acidity of the Godello grape combined with the barrel notes, make it transform in the bottle obtaining a fatty quality, with a great permanence in the mouth.
Enjoy it in good health, with warm wishes from the Otero family from El Bierzo!
Mischief and Mayhem Bourgogne Blanc 2021
Tasting notes:
Burgundy is considered a cool climate region, but in 2020 and 2022 it certainly did not feel like that with both years seeing extremely high temperatures and early vintages. 2021 was much more traditional with a cooler summer allowing the fruit to ripen over a much longer period.

Mischief and Mayhem Bourgogne Blanc 2021
By Michael & Fiona RaggTasting notes: An intense nose of green apple, pear and lemon zest, with notes of smoky gun-flint, oatmeal, melon and shortbread.
Drinking window: Drink now to 2026
Serving suggestions: Serve slightly chilled – this is of benefit for keeping everything fresh, and as the wine comes up to temperature it will open up. So definitely chill it but don’t freeze it!
Food pairing: A delicious wine to drink by itself, or an ideal accompaniment to pork or rabbit terrine, charcuterie, roast chicken or drier goat cheeses. It would also match extremely well with lighter seafood, oysters, moules marinières and crab cakes.
Notes from the Winemaker: Here in Burgundy we are working in what is, by viticultural standards, a cool climate region.
It certainly didn’t feel like that in 2020 or 2022 - both years saw really high temperatures and extremely early vintages commencing in the third week of August. However, 2021 was different and, in many respects, a more traditional or typical vintage. The summer was even, but not especially hot, so the ripening of the fruit took place over a longer period, culminating in an early-mid September harvest.
Our Bourgogne Blanc is the only white wine that we produce that is sourced from a number of different vineyard parcels. It is unique in that respect, as all of our other wines are produced from single vineyards. Like the vast majority of all white wines here it is 100% Chardonnay and, in line with both the region and our house style, it is not overly rich but instead a wine that typically displays lovely acidity, minerality and purity.
Fruit is key and, given the climate, and the vintage conditions in 2021, the fruit profile is more citric than tropical. We also use quite a lot of fruit from the Mâcon area for this wine. This lends itself to this style, yet is balanced by slightly richer fruit from the Cote de Beaune.
As a producer we use very little new oak at all, and for this wine we don’t use any. The vinification is conducted in both stainless steel and 1-2 year old French oak barrels. Barrels which have already had 1-2 vintages are excellent as the “new” oak flavour is significantly, if not totally, diminished. But the wood remains porous and breathable, softening and balancing the wine in its early stages, and throughout malolactic fermentation.
We don’t really think of this as our house white wine, as in many ways it is the most complex of our wines to produce. That said, it is one of the easiest wines to approach when young, and it generally shows extremely well right after bottling, being easy-drinking, with no hard edges, so we hope that it gives a lot of pleasure to everyone who drinks it!

Château Poitevin Médoc 2016
By Guillaume PoitevinTasting notes: On the palate, Château Poitevin 2016 is full-bodied and well-structured, with a firm tannic structure and a long, lingering finish. It is a wine that will continue to develop in the bottle for many years to come, so it is a great choice for wine collectors and enthusiasts.
Drinking window: Drink now to 2035
Serving suggestions: Best served at around 18°C to encourage the full flavour and aroma profile to shine. Decant for 30 minutes before serving to allow the wine to open up and release its full potential.
Food pairing: This is a wine that pairs exceptionally well with the local dish of Pauillac roasted lamb. The profile of the wine complements the rich, savoury flavours of the lamb perfectly. The wine also pairs well with other hearty meat dishes, such as beef steak or venison.
Notes from the Winemaker: I am delighted to introduce you to one of our finest creations, Château Poitevin 2016. This wine is a true representation of the region’s unique terroir and the expertise that goes into every bottle of wine we produce.
The Médoc region is located on the left bank of the Gironde Estuary in the Bordeaux wine region of France. It is renowned for producing some of the world's best red wines, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grape varieties. The region's sandy, gravelly soil, combined with the maritime climate of the Atlantic Ocean, creates the perfect conditions for producing wines that are elegant, structured, and age-worthy.
The climatic influence on Château Poitevin 2016 is evident in its taste and aroma. The growing season in 2016 was marked by a mild winter, a warm and dry spring, and a hot summer with a few scattered showers. These conditions allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes, resulting in a wine with intense aromas of black fruits, such as blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, as well as subtle notes of vanilla and toast from the oak barrels used for aging.
Château Poitevin 2016 is made primarily from Merlot, with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot blended in. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, with 30% of the barrels being new, to add complexity and depth to the wine.
In summary, Château Poitevin 2016 is a wine that truly reflects the unique terroir of the Médoc region. It is a wine that is rich, full-bodied, and complex, with long aging potential. It's a must-try for any wine enthusiast looking to experience the best that the Médoc region has to offer.
Caminho da Costa Reserva Tinto 2019
Tasting notes:
The Caminho da Costa Tinto Reserva comes from the Pinhão Valley in the Cima Corgo - a small region at the very heart of the Douro. Although this is a region famed for its Port wines, the higher elevations of the region produce exceptional wines with a unique richness and longevity.

Caminho da Costa Reserva Tinto 2019
By Joao PiresTasting notes: The Douro is all about the magic of the blend. The five grape varieties I’ve carefully selected for this wine combine to create a firm structure and textured palate, before opening up into luxurious layers of dark jammy fruit and ripe red berries. It’s a wine full of vibrance and excitement, whilst staying true to its traditional plush and indulgent Douro Valley roots.
Drinking window: Drink now to 2038
Serving suggestions: Allow this wine an hour to breathe before serving
Food pairing: I recommend a meaty stew (pork knee is the classic in the Douro) to soak up all the flavour of this Douro Tinto Reserva.
Notes from the Winemaker: The Caminho da Costa Tinto Reserva comes from the Pinhão Valley in the Cima Corgo in the heart of the Douro. The Douro is the oldest demarcated wine region on the planet and is a UNESCO world heritage site.
Famed for its port wines, the higher elevations (250-450 meters above sea level) of the region also produce exceptional wines with incredible richness and longevity. Caminho da Costa Tinto Reserva is grown on such slopes, specifically on schist soils. It combines five different varieties to create this modern expression of Douro Tinto. Touriga Nacional brings a long textured palate with luscious red and blue fruits; Tinta Barroca brings juicy, vibrant red fruits; Touriga Franca brings mid palate weight and structure with rich black fruits and meaty characters; Tinta Roriz and Sousão bring punctuation to the wine adding further structure and lively acidity.
I used the traditional techniques of foot-stomping and fermenting in granite lagars to make this wine; with extended maturation in French oak barrels (30 months) allowing the wine to slowly soften and build deep flavour and texture over this time.
A cool summer and some late rainfall in August led to an extended harvest period in 2019. As a result I was able to pick with full flavour, as well as heightened aromatics and good acidity. This hedonistic wine is approachable now, but will reward those willing to wait 10-15 years with complex secondary flavours.
Your support allows me to make wines I like to drink, and it seems that you do too. I always appreciate your feedback and love being part of the Naked family.
Scott Kelley Oregon Tempranillo 2020
Tasting notes:
My 2020 Tempranillo hails from Oregon’s Umpqua Valley, nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Coastal range just south of its famous neighbour, the Willamette Valley. Few remember that a lot of winemaking pioneers started here - for instance the first Pinot Noir vines in Oregon were planted in the Umpqua in 1961 and the first Tempranillo vines in Oregon were planted here in 1995.

Scott Kelley Oregon Tempranillo 2020
By Scott KelleyTasting notes: The intense, vibrant colour invites you into the glass. Aromas of blackberry, tobacco, clove and vanilla fill the glass as you take your first sip. Concentrated flavours of cocoa and fig on the palate with savoury acidity and firm tannins.
Drinking window: This wine will evolve in the glass and I definitely recommend opening it up for 30 minutes or so before enjoying it.
:Serving suggestions: Feel free to lay this Tempranillo down for 5-10 years as it will age well with the wonderful acidity and tannin profile.
Food pairing: Here in Oregon we have an abundance of wild game and forage for mushrooms in the spring and fall. One of my favourite dishes to serve with my Tempranillo is Elk Stroganoff with wild mushrooms served over buttered noodles.
Notes from the Winemaker: My 2020 Tempranillo hails from the Umpqua Valley of Oregon which is located just south of the Willamette Valley nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Coastal range.
Tempranillo like the Umpqua Valley is one of the hidden gems of Oregon. A lot of pioneers started here, for instance the first Pinot Noir vines in Oregon were planted in the Umpqua in 1961 by Richard Sommer and the first Tempranillo vines in Oregon were planted in the Umpqua Valley in 1995.
The Umpqua Valley is over 70% hills and mountains creating a topography that is like facets of a diamond with a vast array of slopes, elevations and aspects to choose from. The soils are reddish decomposed sandstone with just enough clay to hold moisture during the late summer months.
The Umpqua Valley receives about 35 inches of rain a year with enough during the growing season to allow us to dry farm our vineyards. With large diurnal swings and coastal marine influence we are able to produce Tempranillo with dark color, high acidity and concentrated flavors.
My Tempranillo is produced from all hand harvested from dry farmed vineyards and 100% destemmed into 100HL French Oak tanks for fermentation. After a short cold soak, I ferment over 10-12 days at 28°C pumping over twice daily and assessing the fermentation for tannin extraction daily. Once pressed off the wine is settled and then barreled down for aging into 30% new French oak for 18 months.
