EDIT**** October 2022 After more than 5 years, I’ve finally come to the end of this limited edition wine from Carmen, and boy, what a ride. I’ve bumped this up to 5 hearts of course, how could I not? It’s been a super wine, and right to this last bottle, been a consistently bold red, dominated by character, but more it’s been a super advert for patience. My earlier experiences of this wine were in hindsight, reflective of the wines complexity and character, there was always more than just fruit in this wine, it has layers of savoury notes adding depth and body. However those earlier experiences were less harmonious and the wine over the years has certainly developed greater harmony. I’d liken it to a smoothening of the edges, making the wine softer and easier while retaining the power and body. What a smashing wine, thanks Carmen for finding this parcel of fruit and letting us enjoy it!! Original review May 2017 This is an excellent bordeaux blend by the wonderful and caring Carmen Stevens. Tasted in high competition at last nights VinChin, the Dome was far more elegant and complex versus the fruit of the Coastal blend. That is to say, they are different. I rated both Dome and Coastal blend at 4 hearts and would definitely enjoy both again, but on different occasions. (Firstly, a lovely touch on the cork "Only for Angels"...) The Dome is more sedate and understated on the nose, a more acidic/tannic nose, maybe stewed rhubard, some leather, wood, tobacco - complexity is the word! A deeper purple hue here, the taste is more compelling than the nose promises. Its still complex and more savoury than fruity, its definitely a wine to serve with food, a bold beef casserole or stew, or a steak with sauce would partner this amazingly, the food bringing out flavours and depth in the wine. Its important to note too that the Dome opens up after 3 hours, at first what is maybe a touch closed, relaxes into its comfort zone. It needs time to breath, plus, it bodes well for ageing potential. Good job i have 3 more bottles to try. Keep up the great work Carmen, we love you!

wow, i was left speechless by this one (hence the other review) but now with time to compose myself I shall try and do this beautiful wine justice. Tasted last night on the VinChin SA bordeaux blends, we were really spoiled by some fabulous wines. The Kruger Family Elements was universally adored by all last night and came out worthy winner. A lush ruby red colour, this is definitely a lure for the weak willed. On opening, the nose is an abundance of fabulous fruit, blackberries, cherry, plum, damsons, just tempting you to dive straight in....after an hour or two, the nose settles, and more complex notes creep through, some leather, a bit of cocoa. The calm before the storm is perhaps a little deceiving as the explosion that follows in the mouth was for me like that scene in Ratatouille (the film, about a Rat that can cook....great film!) where the food critic Anton Ego sits down and takes a first bite of the Ratatouille.... sublime, stunning, speechless. This is a complex blend that just about hits perfection, the right balance of fruit, some strawberry and cherry following through, balanced with savoury tones, pepper and oak, balancing just right on acidity and lingering tannins in the mouthfeel. Lush, velvety, this is WOW....This is a wine that is 5 hearts now, but it will age well if stored correctly, I'm sure it will change, become more mature, more complex, but will I have the patience? I met Johann on the Summer tour in Manchester, and he was stunned when I confessed I had 5 bottles of the 2012, and I hadn't yet opened any...well I've broken that duck now and I can understand his amazement. He must be very proud of his baby! I just want to tell everyone, want to take bottles out into the streets and introduce people to my new find, my new favourite wine (but then again, no, its all mine, my PRECIOUS....) Damn, the 2013 is out of stock...
