About the wine
Big and bold Barossa is back
- This is classic Aussie Shiraz—silky and sexy—beckoning you to have a second glass. It’s flush with juicy black fruits and barrel-aging spices, like sultry mocha, caramel and vanilla.
- Daryl’s estate Shiraz vineyard, in the Kalimna area of the Barossa Valley, is adjacent to Penfolds—the “mother source” of some of the world’s greatest Shiraz. Angel support allows him to make a world-class version of his own.
- This rich red is a perennial Angel favorite, so expect it to vanish quickly. Grab some to accompany red meats on the barbie!
Best before
If you like bold, juicy in-your-face red wines with a little grip, drink it now. If you like full fruit with a little more softness, drink it in a year. If you like soft and complex, age for 5+ years and your patience will be rewarded. It has great acid, so this will help hold it up for many years to come.
Serving advice
If you are enjoying the wine in its youth, sometimes a little aeration helps bring out the fruit and soften the edges. Personally I like to just pour straight from the bottle and aerate and swirl in the glass. It is best served at room temperature, 68 degrees or below.
Food match
Red meats like beef, lamb and game. It is also yummy with Indian food if you want a red wine with this cuisine.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Daryl Groom
- Meet Daryl... a 35-year veteran of the wine biz, credited eight-times as Winemaker of the Year, named by Food & Wine Magazine as one of 11 visionaries to change the world of wine... and oh yes, he served up his wines at the Oscars and Emmys two years in a row! Safe to say, the man's accomplished.
- Working as the senior white and red winemaker at Penfolds, his 1986 Penfolds Grange was arguably one of the top 3 Granges ever made - 98 points from Spectator and Robert Parker. And now that he works for you, he loves showing off wines from Australia and his California home – Sonoma and Russian River Valley.
- Thanks to your funding, Daryl can focus on doing what he loves – making great wine and sharing great wine. And he selects the best barrels he needs and farms to the best quality. "You are a gift from God to a winemaker," he says. "I knew there were Angels in heaven!"
