I was blown away by this wine. I love chardonnay in all of its forms. It's probably my favourite white grape. Oaked or not. French or new world. I'll enjoy it however it comes. I think I was expected the "usual" big very oaked, very buttery chardonnay when I opened this. (Don't get me wrong - I LOVE a buttery chardonnay). This was not it. It is from an absolutely beautiful region of the US - the Columbia Valley forms the border between Oregon and Washington State and it is one of the loveliest places on earth. A region that is sadly not as popular in the UK as it deserves to be. I swear that you can taste it in the freshness and clarity of this lovely wine. There is definitely oak there but it's subtle. It gives the wine depth and complexity but doesn't overpower the fruit. The balance is extraordinary and I would urge anyone who believes that they don't like chardonnay to give this one a try. It's soft and sophisticated and really is a stunning glass of wine. It's gone straight back in the basket
