His beguiling blend takes a traditional Bordeaux approach (which is why he calls it BX) of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec – and then he breaks all the rules by adding a healthy splash of Syrah. There is an immediate sense of freshness with this wine, and the palate opens to a mix of ripe fruit and luscious honeysuckle. Oak is in the background playing a very supportive role thus allowing the true Chardonnay grape character to hold center stage."
"Vineyards dictate winemaking style. For this Russian River Valley Chardonnay, the delicacy of the fruit had to be protected at all costs. Whole-cluster pressing at low pressures allowed for gentle juice extraction from the grapes. After that, a cold fermentation in neutral oak and stainless tank preserved the elegant characteristics of this Chardonnay."
"RRV Chardonnay commands a high price (as it should) and a wine of this caliber would sell for $30 to $40 easily.
