Ana Diogo-Draper Sonoma Valley 3 Clones Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
About the wine
Ana's single-vineyard Sonoma Cab is a sultry, silky-smooth stunner in every way
- This show-stopping Sonoma Cab is as rich and concentrated as they come, with powerful, elegant flavors of cherry, plum and a slight touch of tastebud-tingling spice.
- The fruit for this Cab all came from the same block in a single Sonoma Valley vineyard, making it a perfect little slice of Wine Country in a bottle. Ana calls 2018 “a winemaker’s vintage”, meaning the conditions were picture-perfect for letting this vineyard’s grapes ripen to their fullest, richest potential.
- 2018 was actually the very first vintage from these young vines, meaning you get to taste the fruit from this high-end corner of Sonoma before anyone else. Grab a bottle and be the first to try it!
Best before
If the Angels are patient (or can put a few bottles aside), this wine will age beautifully for the next 5 - 10 years. However, if you're as impatient as I am and choose to drink it right away, please be sure to decant the wine, in order to let it "breathe" properly. It will bring out all the wonderful dark fruit aromas, and smooth the bold tannins.
Serving advice
This is a young Cabernet Sauvignon. Which means that for the first year or 2, it will show big tannins and the fruit will be slightly less showy. Therefore, please be sure to open your bottle at least 1 hour before enjoying it. I advise the Angels to pour a glass when they open the bottle, and to smell it and taste it as it sits in the glass. It is fascinating to see how the wine opens up, how the beautiful dark fruit really comes through, and the tannins gradually get smoother.
Food match
For me, this bold Cabernet Sauvignon would pair beautifully with a nice roast of beef, or simply a juicy New York Steak. French fries are obligatory with it. This Cab will hold up to bold, umami flavors. I will be paring it with a crisp soy-glazed roasted duck. A plate of strong flavored cheeses (think blue cheese or aged cheddar) will also be a great accompaniment for this wine. If you're looking for a vegetarian pairing, I would go with a savory tahini pasta, or a vegetable fried rice.
