Russell Johnson's Story
Russell Johnson's Story
My interest in wine occurred during a vintage stint at a family owned winery in the Barossa Valley in 1974 - after completing my High School Certificate in Adelaide. I was going to become a High School Teacher, but the experience changed all that!
The most enjoyable aspect of being a wine-maker is the incredible variation of fruit intensity and flavour from year to year no two years are the same. Also the camaraderie in the industry is quite amazing all producing different wine styles but all having a similar passion.
A few Naked facts about Russell:
- His favourite wine is a 1973 Dom Perignon
- If he wasn't a winemaker, he would be a bush cook for an Australian Outback tourist organisation, preferably his own!
- If he were to compare himself to a bottle of wine, it would be a Saltram No.1; honest and full-bodied!
- Who couldn't he do his job without? His amazingly tolerant, patient wife and his enthusiastic, energetic business partner
