Philippe Bardet's Story
"I was born in Saint-Emilion in the midst of the vines on the family estate, my wife Sylvie was born in the midst of the vines of Pomerol and we got married in Pomerol church.
I have never imagined doing another job than winemaker...it is my passion!
I love the challenge of trying to Pilot a complex ecosystem, the vine and its environment. Nature do not cheat, do not lie! If the results do not reach the level of my objectives, it is because I have made mistakes and it is up to me to adapt myself and to develop strategies to reach my goal.
The most extreme thing I have done was adhere to the lectures of our teacher in oenology during my studies. Having advised us to eliminate added suger from our drinks to lower our perception threshold. I am part of those who have respected his advice and since then, I do not sweeten any drink.
My collective commitment takes me a lot of time and energy and the irrational behavious of some grousers is exasperating. I couldn't do it all without my family, which gives meaning to the long-term vision I have of the winemaker job.
I would compare myself to my 2000 vintage which you'll have the opportunity to try! In that it is a well-balanced wine which has a good longevity, despite its tertiary aromas, it is still very fruity. Getting older, I improve my experience, but I would like to keep the curiosity of the youngest.
