I think this is a wine that might divide opinion a little. For those that like their Chardonnay big, bold and buttery, this is for you. For those that prefer their whites a little more understated, this powerhouse of a wine might be a touch overwhelming. I like to think I straddle that divide, enjoying both styles equally. As a result, I thought this wine was freaking awesome. I think what may divide opinion is the use of oak - wood abound in the palate here. Chardonnay suffered a great deal in the 90s and 00s from the over use of oak to mask what were frankly poor quality wines. Here, there's a clarify of fruit (juicy tropical since you ask) that shines through the oak, meaning the palate is a riot of buttery, fruity goodness. Such a powerful mouthful, this lingered and lingered, and was accompanied by a long and distinguished finish. Utterly spellbinding stuff, and for me great, great value at the thirteen pound mark.
