Ok so first thing first. Crisp White? No way, this is definitely bang in Rich White territory. By far this is the best wine I have yet had from the Fine Wine Club, what an absolute stunner....speechless. Only kidding! Rich golden colour, it almost pours like liquid gold, aromas are tropical and vanilla. The texture is so lusciously creamy, good body, dry with such specificities on the profile. It’s easy to pick out sugared pineapple, honeyed peach, mango, apricot and vanilla. Time on oak definitely shows, there is vanilla and buttery character, but I wonder if it’s also had time on lees as the texture is just so evocative of that. That rich creamy texture just keeps on giving, wrapping the mouth in a velvet blanket that has no end. Chenin delivers such a wonderful alternative and South Africa is such a champion of the style at the moment, making it both approachable and interesting. This is a quality wine, apparently a very lauded award winner and it really shows. At £16.99 per bottle, many will avoid this, but, honestly this is a standard bearer of a wine, definitely the interesting end of the spectrum. If you are happy to spend £17 on a bottle, this will not disappoint, if it’s beyond your normal budget for a wine, then buy it anyway for Christmas Day or a Special Anniversary treat. It really is worth it!
