JC van Staden
USA
Made wine at Boekenhoutskloof until he got tired of spelling that out for people.
- JC is an all-star in California's Central Valley with a hand in producing many of the award-winning wines in the area like the Peltier Station Teroldego that unhooked a couple gold medals and a "Best of Class" award last vintage.
- His job lets him spot great fruit that stands out, so he separates that to make great wine that always overdelivers.
- We're really excited to have a Lodi winemaker who specializes in big, beefy reds because these are typically expensive-styled wines, but he's delivering them at really impressive prices.
JC van Staden's Story
JC van Staden's Story
JC van Staden was born and raised on a game farm in South Africa. Growing up, his family raised cattle, sheep and game. Planting about everything imaginable, which included table grapes. He planted his first vineyard when he was 14. Riding bulls, wrestling crocs and catching warthogs was a little too much fun, so at a summer job at Robertson Winery at the age of nineteen, JC found his passion for winemaking. After beginning his career at Robertson Winery, he joined the prestigious Boekenhoutskloof Winery in Franschhoek, South Africa. JC also gained international experience in France before coming to Michael & David Vineyards of Lodi in 2003, after which he joined the Schatz Family and created Peltier Station in 2005. JC’s remarkable blending skills have changed the face of Lodi's wines, from being a bulk producing appellation, to a quality force to be reckoned within the wine industry. In his free time, JC plays Rugby, coaches Rugby, and referees Rugby –and he tries to keep up with his wife Carien, and two kids, Christoff and Amika.
