Rod Easthope Hawkes Bay Merlot 2012
About the wine
A touch of class from a Naked icon...
- This is a seductively soft, supple Merlot with ripe plum fruits, spicy oak and chocolate notes.
- Rod used Angel funding to secure top-notch Merlot grapes from New Zealand’s Hawkes Bay region.
- A note from Rod on the sediment: “This 2012 Hawkes Bay Merlot was made using artisanal winemaking techniques that eschews fine filtration, fining or industrial stabilising processes. The result is more flavour. With maturation time in bottle a natural deposit will occur which is the result of the grape tannins and tartrates crystallising to form a sediment within the bottle. This sediment is natural and harmless. Please stand the bottle for at least half an hour, then carefully pour off the wine from the deposit into a decanter or jug. If you wish to serve the wine from the bottle, then rinse the bottle of the sediment and return the wine to the bottle. Voila! You will be re-enacting a ritual that was commonplace prior to the industrial winemaking era.”

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rod Easthope
- Rod downed tools at one of New Zealand's most iconic wineries, to set-up-shop alone, and luckily for us, he knows the whereabouts of the very best grapes that Hawke's Bay and Central Otago have to offer.
- He has rave reviews from journalists, wines dripping in medals and oodles of Parker Points under his belt, and thanks to Angel funding and backing, he's now making wines exclusively for you.
- Using his prize fund from being crowned your Winemaker of the Year 2014, Rod was able to add a stunning Gisborne Chardonnay to his range. Years on and his wines never fail to impress - they don’t call him Rod the God for nothing.
