Hacienda Don Hernan Cepas Viejas Rioja Edicion Limitada 2010
About the wine
Taste the wine that won the most Angel votes on our summer tour...
- Rioja is full of vineyards producing high quality grapes, but some stand out more than others - and the vines used for my Old Vines Tempranillo are the perfect example. 40 years old and lovingly tended to by a family of winegrowers, the grapes grown here are among the best you can get.
- I stumbled across this parcel of grapes a few years ago. After speaking with Naked Wines I was able to use Angel funding to buy the grapes up front, and use top quality oak casks to age the wine for two years.
- Older vines produce fewer grapes, so you end up with a concentration of flavour that is hard to match with younger vines. Intense red fruit and spice work with the oak casks to give you a smooth yet complex wine that is my homage to the region.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Rodolfo Bastida
- Rodolfo Bastida is the head winemaker at one of Spain’s biggest wine companies. Which means he has access to vast quantities of plonk.
- So when it comes to making wine for Angels – his favourite pet project – he makes darn sure every single last drop is the mutt’s nuts.
- And if what Naked Angels think isn't enough, he's got a string of medals and awards from Decanter, Robert Parker and the IWC to prove otherwise.
