F. Stephen Millier Black Label Calaveras Red Angel 2017
About the wine
A new blend made using old techniques has mouthwatering results
Angel funding has allowed Stephen to experiment with his wines over the years and for this one he decided to blend a whopping seven grape varieties together to give Angels something truly special (for the curious amongst you they are: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Syrah, Zinfandel, Syrah and a tiny drop of Malbec)!
Aromas of dark red fruits, coupled with a subtle toastiness that gives way to a beautiful, long finish make this a must-have for wine racks everywhere.
As Stephen once told us, “all good things must come to an end. Really good things, however, end sooner.” It’s a rather apt saying for this wine so make sure you snap up a bottle before it’s all gone!
Best before
This wine will age, after all it is make from the best varietals lovingly grown in Calaveras County but don't let yourself get so caught up in putting a few bottles away that you miss out on how great it is today.
Serving advice
I'm sure this wine will need to breath for 30 minutes or so after opening. But that's normal for a new wine just after bottling.
Food match
This wine will be released at the end of fall. Fall weather always makes me think of beans. I'm thinking about beans, sausages and a rich sauce. Sounds like this wine would be the perfect companion to a rich cassoulet.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Stephen Millier
- Stephen is no stranger to a gold medal or two... but usually his prestigious employers are the only ones in the limelight.
- When Stephen offered to set aside some of his favourite wines and vineyards to make a special range with his name on the label just for Angels, we jumped at the opportunity.
- If you like underdogs, Stephen's your man. He will find the overlooked and under-appreciated and he will take precious care to make sure they grow into big, beautiful wines that deserve more attention.
