Type: Fruit Hefeweizen Origin: For centuries Bavarian aristocracy kept wheat beers to themselves but is now common thoughout Germany. At least 50% of the malt is wheat and its special flavour is derived from the yeast which gives the beer its cloudy appearence. The addition of fruit is a modern non-German practice which is prohibited by the Reinheitsgebot. Tasting Notes: A 50% proportion of wheat malt makes a silky smooth body and large head. The special yeast provides most of the flavour in a conventional wheat beer with a spicy character of cloves and bananas. Added mango makes a delicious entry towards the finish leaving the palate clean and refreshed. Recommendations: Spicy rather than sweet but light and gentle drink on its own or try with prawn cocktail or dessert fruits.
