Domaine Begude Etoile Chardonnay 2017
About the wine
Crisp and aromatic Chard that's dripping in medals
-
British couple, James and Catherine Kinglake, own the small hilltop domaine of Begude. It’s in an area known for producing some stonking Chard’s and this rich, ripe beauty does not disappoint.
- It stands up easily to the big boys of fine, white Burgundies and boasts a much more palatable price too so it’s no wonder it’s draped in medals galore.
- We’ve had the chance to cherry-pick the best of Majestic wines to plug gaps in our range. This wine wasn’t funded by Angels, so doesn’t carry an Angel saving. But thanks to Majestic’s buying power, you still get it at a snip!

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - James Kinglake
After years working as a trader in the city, James decided to call it quits and he and his wife, Catherine, headed out to the south of France to embark on a new adventure; wine.
- They looked around a whopping 45 estates before they found ‘The One’, a classic, blue-shuttered beauty surrounded by vines with jaw-dropping mountain views. In 2004 they moved in and took the reigns of an estate which had been producing wine since the 16th century; Domaine Begude.
- Unperturbed by such history, they got stuck in to their 29 hectares of organic vines. Limoux is ideal for growing top-notch Chard and Pinot Noir and that’s exactly what they do! James has also managed to slip in some Gruner Veltliner, which isn’t technically allowed according to appellation rules but he’s labelled it as ‘Exotique GV’ which the French assume stands for Grand Vin. Hat’s off to you, James!
