Beauty and the Beast Reserve 2017
About the wine
Nina and Sam joined forces to make a special Shiraz that ticks all the boxes
Sam and I were chatting about our harvests during last year's Tasting Tour. I had a brooding beast of a Shiraz which needed to be tamed. Sam mentioned that he had a delicate, elegant high altitude Shiraz that was missing a bit of grunt! The idea was born…
Thanks to the support of Angels, we were able to make it a reality. The result is a full bodied yet vibrant Shiraz, packed with juicy red fruits, violet and blackcurrants and a lovely touch of vanilla and spice.
It's not often a wine brings together two winemakers, two vineyards, and two different approaches to winemaking, to create a new and harmonious blend. We really hope you enjoy drinking it as much as we enjoyed making it!

Best before
Drink now for the pretty aromatics, or if you're patient then cellar it for 5-7 years for added complexity
Serving advice
Some would take the top off and get stuck in, but others prefer a bit of air to really let it open up and release its full potential
Food match
When working on this wine we had a delicious meal of asian sticky star anise beef short ribs served with coconut rice and coriander - sublime!! not so local but hey, its a global world!
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Nina Stocker
- Nina Stocker is a ridiculously talented young Aussie winemaker who's dedication to her wines knows no bounds. It's not just about the end product for Nina - she's there every step of the way, working side by side with the grape growers, the truck drivers and cellar hands to make stonking wines that are fair and sustainable for all involved. Is it any wonder she’s already achieved international recognition and critical acclaim?
- She's made wine for famous brands all over the shop – from the Rhône Valley to Yarra, McLaren Vale to Marlborough – Nina won the Sauvignon Blanc trophy at the prestigious Air New Zealand Wine Awards back in 2009. A feat even more astounding given it was her first year working with the grape.
- Now living in Central Victoria, Nina sources her grapes from like-minded growers and local vineyards who are down-to-earth (quite literally), and dig sustainable winemaking just as much as she does. Thanks to the support of Naked Angels, Nina and her husband John have been able to develop sustainable farming methods, growing outstanding grapes whilst giving back to the land that made them. It’s a win for nature and a win for wine lovers.
