The Isla Vale Alesmiths began life a couple of years ago when Nat and myself - Steve, two locals from the Westbrook area of Margate, with our long held passion for real ale and continuing annoyance over ever increasing corporate greed, rising prices and escalating pub closures nationwide, decided it might be an enjoyable and worthwhile hobby to brew purely for our own consumption. At the time there was only a small number of dedicated real ale micro pubs in the area, all well served by established breweries. However, the sudden interest in all things real ale and the sudden explosion in micro pubs opening up all over Thanet, Kent, meant opportunities became available for micro breweries like ours. This, along with plenty of support and encouragement from many local people, not least the local branch of CAMRA, Capt Alan - the skipper at The Wheel Alehouse, Birchington and Carl and Nancy at the 'Ales Of The Unexpected', gave us the impetus to begin brewing commercially. We must also give thanks to Nigel and Dave from BIG RED Branding for not only producing our pump clips and business cards but also for their efforts in helping to promote our brewery. Our current brew length is only about two firkins, making it impossible for us to supply more than a few pubs at any time. So far we have supplied The Wheel Alehouse, Birchington, The Ales Of The Unexpected, Westbrook, The Hair Of Dog, Minster, The 39 Steps, Broadstairs, The Hussar, Garlinge and The Yard Of Ale, St Peters, all of which have given us very positive feedback. So if you are a micro pub owner wondering why we haven't yet been in touch, don't worry, we will be.... Constructive criticism, opinion and ideas are always welcome. After all, for us it's about producing quality real ales, you beer quaffing enthusiasts might just enjoy supping'.
