About the wine
This single-vineyard Shiraz is a refined, sultry, powerhouse Aussie red
- This powerfully elegant, mouth-filling Shiraz is jam-packed with luscious, refined dark fruit flavors woven into an elegant backdrop of warm spices and a plush, heavenly smoothness thanks to 14 months of barrel aging.
- The grapes for this wine are handpicked by Tait Hamilton from his magnificent vineyards in Heathcote, one of the most prestigious regions for Shiraz in all of Australia. Your funding helps Sam get special access to these impeccable grapes – in return, you get an unmatched price on this intense, world-class red!
- Sam says, "for fans of the dangerously big (and generally expensive) Australian Shiraz, this is a crackingly good example." And it’s all yours for a song!
Best before
Reds made from very ripe fruit like this have a plushness that makes them approachable and enjoyable when young, and we'll drink this wine at home as a youngster. But the weight and tannin also gives it capacity to age, certainly up to 5 years, and for people who like more savory wine, perhaps up to 8 years.
Serving advice
The warm alcohol will feel a little tamer if served at a cooler room temperature of around 60ºF.
Food match
"We have a great butcher in Avenel," Sam says, "and ideally we'd have a piece of aged beef from Scotty to go with this Shiraz. But in truth it's pretty versatile wine - any red meat will do, and perhaps follow on with a hard cheese instead of dessert."

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Sam is one of our Australian All-Stars. He garnered lots of attention as the award-winning winemaker at Plunkett Fowles.
- But Plunkett Fowles hit rough waters and Sam wasn't sure he'd be able to stay in the wine business...until he became Angel funded. Your support put his startup on the map.
- Now Sam is off to the races – with the same dedication to quality winemaking that won so many accolades at Plunkett Fowles – and none of the bother about sales and marketing.
