Petit Santa Cotes de Bordeaux 2018

-
The best wines of the Cotes de Bordeaux often fly under the radar compared to those from more famous French regions. But if you know where to look, you can find magnificent parcels of top-quality nectar that easily stand up to the best wines from the 'big name' chateaus. This tip-off from our Bordeaux rebel Olivier Cazenave is a perfect example.
-
Rich and deep, yet mouthwateringly elegant. It’s from the historic Château des Mille Anges, a former convent turned winery where fine wines have been made for over 300 years.
-
Beautifully deep in colour, there’s a lovely, dark richness to the nose. Give it a swirl and decadent aromas of blackberry, cassis and damson jump out of the glass, with dried fruit and a lovely lick of oak too, and spicy notes of cedar and clove. This well-balanced flavour profile follows through on the palate, with lots of ripe, dark fruit and well-integrated tannins. Sunday lunch was practically invented for this wine…

Chateau de Barbe Blanche Lussac Saint Emilion 2016
Sorry, this wine is available exclusively to the Angels who helped make it happen. To find out more about becoming an Angel, click here.
-
The Lurtons have been producing elegant wines at Château de Barbe Blanche since the year 2000, when Jacques’ father Andre fell in love with its magnificent terroir. Ever since, the family have dedicated themselves to maximising its potential, and this exquisite blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc showcases the incredible quality they’ve been able to achieve.
-
Made using fruit from 30-year-old vines atop one of the highest plateaus in St Emilion, the Merlot brings red fruit aromas and silkyness whereas the Cabernet Franc gives freshness and tannins. Barrel ageing softens the wine and its tannins to a velvety touch in the mouth, while bringing tantalising hints of oak to an already complex wine.
-
Unmistakably a right bank Bordeaux, it’s a soft, fresh and elegant red. There are notes of cedar, cigar box and vanilla, even a touch of graphite, and then layers of ripe berry fruit, from blackberry to red cherry, before the wine finishes on silky-smooth tannins. A match made in heaven for yummy roast pork with all the trimmings.

Arabella Reserve In Unison 2021
- In our opinion this is one of Stephen's best blends, and the combination of Cab Sauv, Shiraz and Merlot is about as close to perfection from South Africa, at this price, that we reckon you'll get. It certainly had us excited, when we got the chance to buy a small parcel.
- Full-bodied, and brimming with plum and blackcurrant flavours, it's worth paying the extra pennies to give it a try.
- Wonderful with something simple and homely, like a Lancashire hot-pot, that allows the wine to shine.

-
For generations, Alexandre’s family have produced some of the finest wines you’ll find in all of Bordeaux from their little corner of St Emilion. A historic region many see as the pinnacle of the red wine world, St Emilion wines are famed for their depth, complexity and age-worthiness but they can cost a pretty penny. -
Using top-quality grapes sourced from his own St Emilion sites and some choice neighbouring patches, Alexandre’s delicious Comtesse de Malet Roquefort is crafted by the same expert team who make his family’s flagship wines, with the same care and attention to detail.

As far as Bordeaux goes, this is as lush as it gets. On the nose you get subtle black forest gateau aromas which hint at what’s in store. Then take a sip and you’re instantly hit by deep, ripe, lush fruity sensations, which mellow gently leaving a well-balanced structure with hints of cherries, liquorice and cedar spice.
