Father-son duo behind South Africa's biggest-selling wines
The de Wet’s are one of the longest-serving and most successful winemaking families in Robertson Valley. With your funding, they’ve built a world-famous brand in Arabella – and the highest-rated, best-selling regional Reserve Cab in Naked history.
Stephen’s made wine from the family vineyard since the tender age of 17 and he’s passed his passion onto son Jamie, who now makes wines hand-in-hand with Dad at the de Wet’s 16th-generation family farm.
...and thanks to Angels, the de Wet boys make more crowd-pleasing Arabella wines than pretty much all your winemakers put together. To be precise – in a stacking contest, the total number of wines they’ve made for you beats the height of 226 Everests. Talk about the peak of a career!

Stephen & Jamie de Wet's Story
"My greatest pleasure has been to start my winery from scratch, with the help of my wife and children," said legendary winemaker Stephen de Wet, founder of Arabella Wines and the top-producing legacy vineyard owner in South Africa’s Robertson Valley.
Stephen’s family owned a vineyard and cellar when he was growing up, and at the age of 17, before he went to serve in the army, his mother put him to work in the cellar. He absolutely loved it, so his mother arranged for him to do a one-year student course at Geisenheim (the home of a well-known research and education center in enology and viticulture). So winemaking was something he knew he wanted to do from a young age.
Stephen loves the creativity involved in being a winemaker. Although the weather can play a role, every step – from the vineyard, to the cellar, to bottling – affects the resulting wine. “It's vital to have a very clear idea of what the outcome should be – and the steps needed in the process – to achieve the desired result,” Stephen shared.
Because of your support, the de Wet’s operate a green winery. All wastewater is used to irrigate their pastures, no detergents are used, and grape skins and stalks are converted into compost and used in the vineyard.
With Angel support and Stephen’s son Jamie following in his footsteps, it's turned into a real family business where everyone is completely dedicated to making the best wines possible. "If I had to do my life over, I would ask for nothing more than to be involved with my two passions as I am now – wine and horses!”
