You freed a powerhouse Washington winemaker – Dave Harvey is quite the catch.
With your backing, he's combing the state – from the Columbia Valley river basin to southern Walla Walla – to make Northwest classics (and seriously shocking red blends, too... like his signature GSMmm Syrah!)
He's already clinched a Decanter award for the “Best Rhône varietal wine in the world.” Mark our words - now that Dave has Angel funding, that’s just a drop in the bucket.
Dave Harvey's Story
Dave was born and raised in Eastern Washington, where he lives and makes wine today. His parents were both musicians, so by default, he spent much time playing his trombone. In college, he studied retail management, and of course, played in several musical groups. After college, he dabbled in winemaking as a side job until he was able to land a full-time position in 1994.
Dave became a winemaker because his Dad made wine when he was growing up. He found that making wine and making music aren’t really that different. Both require a similar approach and thought process. By working nights and weekends early in his career, he found he had a very good palate and some natural ability at making wine. He also enjoys the outdoors, so he's never (ever) minded being paid to spend his day in a vineyard.
Dave has always worked in small wineries, so “hands on” is an understatement. He only spends time in the office when it’s a requirement (and thanks to Angels, that requirement is less and less!)
What Dave loves about winemaking is the fact that no two days are ever the same. Making wine requires a variety of skills in a small winery, from chemistry to marketing, and there's never a dull moment – just exciting challenges.
A long time ago, a winemaker Dave was working with told him, “Dave – it’s a Chardonnay/Merlot world out there." With that attitude... he just had to start working with Rhône varieties like Syrah. And, he never stopped.

Besides wine, I'm a passionate wanna be foodie! I love to cook and experiment in the kitchen- of course with a glass of NW to keep my company. I love all of NW wines especially anything from Stefano di Blasi, Dave Harvey, Rabbitt and Spaghetti, the Michauds, Karen Birmingham, Stephen Millier, Daniel Baron, the Phillips, the Glaabs, the Dashe's.. the list is endless! From the great PNW with love, LaDonna ALWAYS needs more wine!
