About the wine
Bold, savory Tempranillo - a fruit-packed Spanish classic from the heart of Lodi
- Lodi legend Macario took Spain's most famously bold red wine and made his own version with a signature California twist. Rich dark fruit flavors dance over a backdrop of spice with each sip, all leading into a long, smooth finish.
- To Macario, the secret of making high-end Tempranillo in California comes down to three things: “Lodi, Lodi, Lodi... It’s the climate that most mimics what the vineyards of Spain have been doing with Tempranillo,” he says.
- With warm days, cool evenings and little or no fog, Lodi is THE spot for growing this Spanish red on the West Coast. Your funding helps Macario pour all his Spanish expertise into world-class reds like this – now it’s yours to enjoy!
Best before
This Tempranillo is young and will benefit with age. If you must drink it early, I would allow it time to open up, so please give it an hour or so to air out before serving. If you have time, try to store it for about 6 months.
Serving advice
Open your bottle about an hour before serving and this wine will sing.
Food match
Tacos al pastor is such an amazing pairing. The spice of the Tempranillo complements the sweetness of the meat perfectly.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Macario Montoya
Macario worked his way up from cellar worker to Napa and Sonoma star winemaker – leading by example for other Latino winemakers.
While Macario is Napa-based, he’s garnered attention for his Mediterranean-style wines in California – his Lodi blends and especially his Macario Montoya reds from Contra Costa’s heritage vineyards – whose label depiction of the old vines shows off the artistic talents of his brother, Maceo Montoya.
With your support, Macario’s reach knows no bounds – he is Sin Fronteras – without borders. He gives back tenfold, creating opportunities for underrepresented Latino winemakers like him through The Montoya Opportnity Fund
