Luis Lozano's Story
" Hi my name is Luis and I am the wine maker here. The Father of my Grand-Father founded the winery in 1926 in “El Toboso, Toledo. He had being growing grapes for all his life, but rather that selling the grapes to others, he started running his own winery and made wine from the grapes of his vineyards, to enjoy with his family, friends and neighbours. Since then, the Lozano family has owned the winery, so my entire life has been around wine and viticulture. I am now 24, but soon after finishing my elementary school, it was quite clear in my mind that I will dedicate my life to wine making, moreover I always love risk, so we make our decision to only produce Organic wine, to fight against the giant of pollution, chemicals, etc., that ruin our world and health. As Don Quixote did against the wind mills…
We registered as an organic vineyard and winery 10 years ago and we are very passionate about making clean wines with no chemicals. We are lucky as the area where we live is perfect for growing grapes so very little chemicals had ever been used.
The name that our winery means actually means Land of Dulcinea. Dulcinea de El Toboso was the lady of Don Quixote, he felt in love with her without even meeting her, she supposed to be ugly and unfriendly, however for Don Quixote´s eyes she was the most wonderful woman in the world.
In my spare time (which working in a small boutique vineyard trust me there is not much off it) I am an Opera singer . I sing Tenor and believe singing to my barrels as the wines are ageing creates more balance in the wines. It is also the only time I get to practice and the acoustics in the barrel room are great!
We have been lucky enough to receive some awards over the years too. Awards are always a recognition of all the hard work you have done, but I feel that someone who has tasted my wine in a restaurant or at home and sent me an email telling me that our wine is great, is more of an award to me.
We are really excited to be working with Naked wines and very much enjoyed meeting some Archangels at the wine fair in London. I would love to meet more customer in the future and cannot wait to get some feedback on our wines. I hope you enjoy them! "
