Jose Manuel Mainar Simon's Story
"My family has had vineyards for many years, I’m the third generation to work in the vineyards. From being very young my whole life has been the vineyard and the world of the wine.
To work with nature and do what I love is a privilege for me. My major challenge comes with every new harvest, in looking for a top quality for my wines and offering the customers the fruits of my work.
I believe that it is necessary to respect the nature and the environment. In Esteban Martin winery, we are pioneering in the utilization of a new technology called sexual confusion, so that pesticides are not in use and the soils are not contaminated.
Sexual confusion is a viticultural practice that aims to protect the vineyards from insects without the need to spray insecticides. We put small capsules filled with the female pheromone in the vineyard. The pheromone from the capsules overpower the females’ own perfume which means the male insects can’t find the females, thus preventing the production of new insects.
We try and use as many sustainable practices as possible to obtain a healthy harvest.
Hope you enjoy the results!"
