Fernando Castro's Story
Fernando Castro's Story
"My cellar, Bodegas Fernando Castro was established in 1850 and I am now the fifth generation of the same family at the head of the cellar. Now Bodegas Fernando Castro is the most ancient cellar in Castilla La Mancha. The story of the cellar is really the story of one family.
I began to work as a winemaker because in my family there is a large tradition of winemakers, therefore, since I was a child I have seen how my family has been devoted to the elaboration of high quality wines. I wanted to carry this on and now I am in charge!
What I do love about my job is being able to follow my family traditions of winemaking. The combination of tradition and modernity has given the cellar a great successful chance, confirmed by the innumerable prizes won by our wines all over the world.
The privileged location of Santa Cruz de Mudela offers excellent weather conditions for the development of the wines thanks to many hot and sunny days with an adjusted humidity during several months. Moreover, the special care given to our vineyards makes our wines be of an excellent quality. In short. Quality offered by these wines is the result of a long experience transferred along the years and constantly improved by five generations of Castro family.
My biggest tale of joy was probably winning of the award “BEST WINERY IN RUSSIA IN 2009” and “BEST WINERY IN JAPAN 2010”. This has made my whole family very proud.
As time goes on, we are elaborating better wines because more and more care is given to the raw material. If the grape is treated well and carefully, then our wines become better in quality.
I hope you like my wine!"
