Baptiste Grangeon
"Me and my brother, Baptiste, are the third generation of our family working at Domaine de Cristia. We started working here back in 1999, taking over from my father. The soils were in excellent condition thanks to Dad's biodynamic conception of agriculture. But trying to change old mentalities was a challenge! After our first few vintages, we really found our own style in 2003. That vintage produced some wonderful wine, and The Wine Advocate called us the 'New Superstars from Chateaueuf-du-Pape'. Winemaking is something I'm truly passionate about. And I love working with my brother Baptiste, who is an engine of energy, ideas, positivity and reassurance. But if I wasn't making wine, I'd be a professor of history, or an intrepid explorer a la Indiana Jones!"

I like Dominique's wines very much and realistically, she is the only winemaker on here that I can honestly say I feel like I am in a relationship with. I have tried her village wines and her country wines, but have saved the three bottles of her flagship wines (including the vielles vignes that we bought from her in France). Until now. Well, we drank one of them over Christmas, the 2006 ch du P with a goose risotto last week with post Christmas guests. It was excellent: rich, dark, brooking, full of flavour and strangely ready for a wine so young. It was also miles, miles, miles better than a supermarket ch du P that someone bought to the Poker game the night before. This is not worth 23 quid, but is well worth 15, so make sure you get this as an angel: you will not be disappointed. Well done Dominique. This is wine to be proud of and a the best wine I drank over the whole holiday.

Stunning wine, went really well with Xmas lunch of fillet of beef. A real treat.

I quite enjoyed this wine, but had been anticipating a little more given the Robert Parker ratings. I've drunk many ChdPs over the years but tend only occasionally to dabble nowadays because I find that the return in pleasure has become generally outweighed by the price inflation. The wine offered all of the right elements but just lacked the wow factor for me. One thing that I'm often guilty of is not opening sufficiently in advance, so I'll make sure that happens with the other bottles and will report back.
One thing that I would appreciate knowing from the producer is what ageing can be expected from the 2006?
