Simpsons of Servian Cuvee MMXVI Speciale Syrah 2016
About the wine
Super premium Syrah from the Simpsons
- 2016 was such an exceptional year for reds at Sainte Rose, particularly the Rhone red varieties. We thought if any year we could make a super premium red it was this year! Whenever we do an exclusive wine in exceptional years we call it an Anniversary wine.
- We left the fruit longer on the vines for greater concentration, hand picked to select only the ripest and cleanest fruit, and used the gentlest of flavour extraction techniques. With the help of the Naked Angels we were also able to buy super high end French oak barrels in which to age this wine.
- Our anniversary blend is a statuesque, powerful and deeply flavoured wine with aromas of warm plums, blackberry and dried lavender. It's got bags of depth and concentration without the heaviness.

Serving advice
Serve at 18-20°C. Due to the minimal filtration to show its full potential, the wine may produce some sediment as it matures further in the bottle so decanting is recommended, at least one hour before drinking
Food match
Go Vegan with Vegan lentil Sloppy Joes! At Sainte Rose, Charles & Ruth sometimes see wild boar in the vineyards and this is the prize game for French 'chasseurs'. Roast wild boar is actually a wonderful pairing for this bold and powerful wine, as would any game or grilled red meat, seasoned with mediterranean herbs.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Charles & Ruth Simpson
- 18 years ago, Charles & Ruth took a leap into the unknown. They quit their dull, corporate jobs. Hopped on the first plane to France. And bought up their own little patch of grape-growing land in Southern France.
- It turned out to be an inspired move. Since then their delicious, Angel-exclusive wines haven’t stopped scooping IWC and Decanter World Wine Awards and rave reviews from wine-critic royalty.
- Their dream was always to return to their roots, making English wine in Blighty. Your backing also gave them the confidence to do just that! In 2014 they returned to their roots and planting their first English vineyard near Canterbury.
