Moerbei Directors' Reserve 2016
About the wine
Spectacular Bordeaux blend from the iconic Stellenbosch hills
-
Willie and Faisal pick the very best fruit from their finest vineyards in the Stellenbosch Hills to make this luxury Bordeaux blend. We’ve landed three vintages - from 2015 to 2017 - all at once, giving you the perfect chance to see how a wine ages.
-
The 2016 vintage is the rebellious middle child of the three. It doesn’t look like its ‘15 and ‘17 siblings. It’s a more structured, bolder, darker animal - due to the hot, drought-like conditions during the year it was made. It’s a great wine to taste the effect that annual climate can have on a vintage.
-
The palate is tighter, with firmer tannins, less fruit and more dark chocolate. It’s a unique vintage that will age well and might just evolve into something special.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Kobie & Faisal
- Kobie was head winemaker at South Africa’s ancient Spier winery, with the oldest wine cellar in the land. Faisal was the business brains that transformed Spier into the nation’s most medalled winery in the 1990s.
- They bought a vineyard right next door to Spier, and for years sold them their grapes, which went into Spier’s top-of-the-range boutique wines.
- Angel backing now means they use their own grapes to make a range of game-changing wines that have become cult classics at Naked. If you like trying new wines that make you go, ‘where has this been all my life?’, you’ll love Kobie & Faisal.
