Nick Badrice's Story
Nick Badrice's Story
"I was born in the Barossa Valley wine region of South Australia, so winemaking was a natural progression really.
That's not to say I've always stayed in Australia... When I was just starting out in the industry, I travelled to Spain, where I lived in a tiny non-English speaking village. I didn't know anyone, and I was barely able to speak a word of Spanish - all in order to work the overseas vintage and gain experience in Spanish grape varieties and winemaking techniques.
And a few things I learnt...
- Making good wine always starts in the vineyard
- Keep it simple
- Be realistic
- Be minimalistic
I always employ a minimalistic approach to my winemaking - I believe the less intervention in the process, the better..
It really is a fantastic career... being a winemaker allows me to be artistic and creative. I love being able to put my mark on it - just like an artist puts the final touch to a perfect picture by signing it. The signature epitomizes all the pride that has gone into making it."
