Jean Louis Reffle's Story
"I am the grandson of a winemaker, from the Languedoc wine region, I grew up in the period of profound questioning of viticulture which led to the modern vineyards than we know now. It was through my Agricultural studies in Toulouse that my curiosity for winemaking was unveiled, helped by lots of wine and culinary treats.
For me, vinification is seeking to express a difference, a land and a way to address life. It is also exploring new opportunities through questions. It is best experienced through the creation of wine by passionate staff. I am fascinated by the dynamic transformation of grapes into wine.
I believe we have to pass on our environment to our children responsibly. We are merely renting the space our children will inherit, just as we were bequeathed this space by previous generations. We enjoy a landscape that was formed by the hand of the shepherd and the vine grower. This awareness is very real to Vineyards Montagnac, which under driven winemakers cooperators, recaptured the secular heritage of our landscapes.
As a gesture of respect for the area in which I work I put in place a project to erect 14 monumental sculptures in the vineyard. It is my hope this project will lead to the public rediscovering the importance of men's work in maintaining natural diversity and cultural development. Other than my wines of course this would be my proudest accomplishment to date. Creating local art in the nature. In just 3 years, we have created 14 monumental statues, weighing three tons each, all guaranteed to last for at least 400 years. I believe these are an ode to our landscape, in the heart of unique sites, simply from the love of the land."
