Diego Spinoglio
Uruguay
Our first ever Uruguayan winemaker!
A former architect and great grandson of an Italian winemaker who immigrated to Uruguay in the late 1800s, Diego’s family were part of a huge wave of European grape growers who moved to Uruguay at the end of the 19th century. Many of whom brought with them their favourite grapevines, stashed safely in their luggage to be planted in the new world.
Lots of the wineries set up by those families back then are still going strong. Led by new generations like Diego. He grew up among the grapevines and - after a 4 year break to study architecture - came home to dedicate his life to the family craft. And he’s now been making wine for almost 30 years.
Uruguay is a wine region like almost no other in South America. Unlike Argentina and Chile, with their arid climates and mountainous vineyards, it’s a tiny country nuzzled up against the fierce Atlantic Ocean. The cooling coastal influences and frequent rains are perfect for producing smooth, plush styles of Uruguay’s signature grape variety - Tannat - which is the basis for many of Diego’s wines.

Gus & Swan Altschwager and Mark & Emma Kenneally are two couples who together make some of Naked Australia’s most loved wines, under their proud A&K (Altschwager & Kenneally) label.
At the core of every wine they create is an unswerving respect for the land. Their passion is to source only the highest quality, sustainably grown fruit. The attention to detail is reflected in the sheer expressiveness of their wines.
It’s a rare treat indeed to finally land some of A&K’s thoroughbred wines on UK shores. Given how much Aussie Angels love them, we’re not sure how much we’ll get in the future, so fill your boots while you can!

Jean's cracking Crozes-Hermitage wines are some of the best quality and value you'll find in this part of the Northern Rhone

The Esprits have been growing grapes in their little pocket of the Northern Rhone since 1909, when Jean’s great-great-grandfather Joseph decided to lay down roots on some of the very best terroir in the entire Crozes-Hermitage appellation.
In 2017, after 5 generations and over 100 years of selling their top-notch grapes, Jean decided it was high time the family kept some for themselves. He built a brand new winery and cellar and that very same year the very first Domaine Jean Esprit wines were made.
Having tasted Jean’s kit, we reckon old grandpa Joseph would be mega-proud of what his great-great-grandson has achieved. His wines are silky yet decadent, fruity yet elegant, and showcase the incredible quality and incredible value you can find in this part of the Northern Rhone.

From couture to Château, Sylvia started her career in the fashion industry - running both a high-flying boutique and a jewellery brand in Paris. She travelled around the world chasing fine fabrics until 2013 when she decided to put it all on pause to return to her roots and her family winery, Château Le Lau in Bordeaux.
After retraining as a winemaker, Sylvia took up the new and exciting project of restoring her family’s historic vineyards to their former glory. The oceanic climate and totally unique soil was ideal for producing mouthwatering Merlot, Malbec and Cab Sav.
All that was needed was a winemaker with the vision and drive to turn them into top quality, super stylish Bordeaux wines.

A winemaking wonderkid who spent his formative years working with legendary names like Bordeaux’s Petrus and Napa Valley’s Screaming Eagle, before becoming America’s youngest head winemaker at just 24, Jesse Katz has been named as ‘One of wine’s fastest rising stars’ by Decanter… and that’s putting it mildly.
The definition of a rockstar winemaker, Jesse’s wines have sold for up to 1 million dollars at auction, and he was even named on Forbes ‘30 under 30’ list in 2014, the first winemaker to ever do so. In 2009, he launched his own winery in Alexander Valley - Aperture Cellars - and since then, he’s set the record for highest-rated wine ever produced in Alexander Valley THREE times. While Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has given his wines the highest-rating in the world three times as well.
After riding to his rescue during the Covid pandemic, Jesse’s been making wines for US Angels since 2020, and he’s now thrilled to be able to share his acclaimed Alexander Valley kit with UK Angels too. “Angel support is amazing," says Jesse. "Working with Naked Wines is a wonderful way to be creative and we’re excited about a growing partnership now and in the future.” The feeling's mutual, Jesse. We can't wait to see what you have in store.

When you taste top-quality Bordeaux like Edouard's, you understand why it's one of the most famous wine regions in the world

We’ve been looking for more classic Bordeaux wines for ages, but finding the right winemaker to make them has been like finding a needle in a haystack, so much of the region is dominated by traditional old estates that just don’t fit the Naked mould. Thankfully a tip-off from our Bordeaux rebel Olivier Cazenave led us to Edouard, a 3rd generation winemaker at his family’s Chateau Le Grand Verdus estate, and as soon as we met him we knew we’d found our needle.
His name may sound like something out of a French nobleman’s court, and his family estate is practically a castle, but Edouard is actually a really forward-thinking guy who understands the need to balance the new with the old. He’s passionate about organic farming and working with nature, and has been introducing loads of changes in his vineyards to encourage the local wildlife to flourish among his vines “It’s no longer about fighting nature, it will always win. It’s about working with it.”
It’s when you taste top-quality stuff like Edouard’s that you understand why Bordeaux is one of the most famous wine regions in the world. From his access to first-class grapes, to his understanding of the technical side of winemaking, to his ability to create uniquely delicious, classic French wines. If you’re a Bordeaux fanatic, Edouard’s is a name to get really excited about.

As a child of Chile’s bountiful Cachapoal Valley, Marcela Chandia always dreamed of making her very own wine using the region’s ‘exquisite’ grapes. And after a globetrotting education in wine which saw her hone her craft in New Zealand, South Africa, France, Portugal and the USA (phew!) she finally returned home to realise her dream in 2015.
Nestled in between the iconic Maopo and Colchagua Valley regions, Cachapoal flies a little under the radar compared to its more famous neighbours. But talented winemakers like Marcela are beginning to shine a spotlight on this up-and-coming region, with the potential to produce high-quality, fine Chilean wines for a snip.
Your new Queen of Carmenere, Marcela is a passionate champion of Chile’s flagship grape variety. In fact, it was the very first wine she made when she began her solo project back in 2015. She loves it for its potential to create wonderfully complex, vibrant, and velvety-smooth wines. And we reckon you’ll love hers for the exact same reason.

Your 2023 Naked Winemaker of the Year is... the fabulously talented, the one, the only... Marica Bonomo!

We knew Marica would be a perfect fit for Naked when she joined us back in 2022, and that Angels would love her wines. But to go from a standing start to Winemaker of the Year in just two years is nothing short of extraordinary.
Marica is exactly the kind of hard-working, humble but uber-talented winemaker Naked was set up to support. A third generation winemaker, her family have been crafting top-quality Italian wines for 66 years, up in the hills near Lake Garda in the Veneto region. They don’t use pesticides or herbicides, and can paper the walls of their recently renovated, solar-powered winery with so many sustainability credentials and certificates. And by producing only wines that come from their own vineyards, Marica knows the identity and soul of every single grape that goes into them.
In recent years, Marica’s wines have started to get noticed in high places, including being named in the ‘Top 100 Wines’ in the world by Wine Spectator. And now she’s topped it all by being named your 2023 Winemaker of the Year. It couldn't have happened to a nicer lady.
