Martin started his life as a winemaker in the Spanish city of Palencia, where he was born. As soon as he had graduated, he took to the road, following harvest through several different countries to discover the incredible diversity of the wine world.
He has since settled in the Nahe region of Germany, working tirelessly to create palate pristine wines that reflect this super-unique region both authentically and sustainably.
Conserving the natural environment he works with is incredibly important to Martin, and he’s putting your hard-earned Angle pennies towards protecting old vines in the Nahe. Vines like these produce grapes of incredible quality but in very low yields, so they’re constantly under threat of being bulldozed by developers. Martin is dedicated to their protection and making fantastic wines along the way.

With their passion for pure, elegant Riesling and dedication to natural winemaking methods that let the fruit do the talking - this father and son pair are making some of the most in-demand wines in the entire Mosel. And the best bit? They just became your star German signings.
The Loewen’s steep, sloping vineyards encompass some of the very best sites in the entire Mosel, including an astonishing set of 1896-planted vines - ‘the oldest Riesling vines in the world’ says Christopher - that were so highly-revered even then, that the Russian Tsar bought exclusive rights to the wine that was made there.
Working on those steep slopes in the Mosel Valley has its challenges. Mainly, a lot of hard working hours in the vineyards, picking every single grape by hand. But for Christopher - who now runs the show - and Karl-Josef, it’s all worth it to make a truly special wine for people like you to enjoy.

Urban and Eva Kaufmann’s winemaking journey is like something out of the movies. When they first met in 2012, he was a rising star in the cheese world and she was the director at one of Germany’s biggest wine organisations, but they hit it off immediately. And within two years, they’d jumped head first into a brand new life…
Eva had had her heart set on becoming a winemaker for a while and Urban was quite the wine-lover himself, so between them they pooled all their savings to buy up a winery at the heart of Germany’s historic Rheingau wine region, which is famed for its exquisite Rieslings and high-quality local wines.
With Urban clattering around in the winery and Eva guiding by his side, they’ve already left quite the mark, converting their entire operation to biodynamic practices and swapping out old oak barrels for brand new stainless steel tanks - influenced by Urban’s cheesemaking past. They might be learning on the job, but they’ve already won heaps of praise from the experts, and now it’s your turn to get a taste of their top-class Rheingau wines.
