Growing up with both his father and grandfather constantly out in the vineyards, how could Gilles not fall in love with wine?! He’s never more enthusiastic than when he is championing local varieties such as the Jacquere (between us that’s a fresh, fruity and very easy drinking grape...yum.)
A few years ago they hit hard times with frosts wiping out 40% of their harvest. If ever there was a place that Angel funding could make a huge difference it’s here.
Gilles is so excited to join the Naked family. Thanks to you, he can now, along with his brothers Philippe and Christophe, carry on the family tradition with pride.
When we stumbled upon Alain & Vincent we couldn’t believe our luck. They’ve over 45 years’ experience, a 300 year-old winemaking family, and a vineyard in Gaillac which goes back to Roman times.
Alain is a bit of a local saint, having rescued the local co-operative from the edge of bankruptcy. But his main passion is making traditional wines from grapes grown on his own estate.
To have 180,000 thirsty Angels queueing up for their amazing wines seems like a miracle to Alain and Vincent. It’ll enable them to support their local co-op more. Even better, they’ll be able to take their already unbelievable wines to another level.
Two brothers making some of the finest Sancerre around - now exclusively for Angels
This pair don't just turn grapes into wine, they are hands on in the vineyard for the growing process as well. They believe good winemaking starts in the vineyard, so they like to have control over every part of the process.
Emile says- "We aim to produce fine, fruity and mineral wines. Pure wines which reflects their "terroir", while respecting the environment."
Once upon a time, Joost was Chairman of the Dutch Stock Exchange. Then one day his world turned upside down. After falling in love with the Loire Valley on a French holiday, he decided to give up his rich city job and move there, to become a winemaker. Everyone thought he’d gone bonkers.
The early years were tough, and his business almost went bust. But we’d heard whispers he was crafting some of the best Sauvignon Blanc in France. So we took a chance on Joost, and sent in the Angel cavalry.
Since then he's been spoiling Angels rotten with some of the finest wines we’ve ever stocked.
Katie’s love of wine led her all the way from Leicestershire to the Languedoc where she bought a an idyllic vineyard perched half-way up a hill in Tuchan. In 2013 she experienced every winemaker’s worst nightmare when vandals emptied her entire year’s vintage down the drain.
She turned to us. And 2,500 Angels helped to get her back on her feet - clubbing together to raise over £200k in just 48 hours. Our Queen of the Languedoc was able to start again and gone on to make some seriously delicious wines, with sparkly awards a plenty.
Thanks to her beloved Angels, Katie has been able to nab more hilltop vineyards, expand her range and even move her winemaking operation into an old railway station to fit in more barrels. It’s a long way from the 600 cases of wine she made in her garage in 2009!
16 years ago, Charles & Ruth took a leap into the unknown. They quit their dull, corporate jobs. Hopped on the first plane to France. And bought up their own little patch of grape-growing land in Southern France.
It turned out to be an inspired move. Since then their delicious, Angel-exclusive wines haven’t stopped scooping IWC and Decanter World Wine Awards and rave reviews from wine-critic royalty.
Their dream was always to return to their roots, making English wine in Blighty. Your backing also gave them the confidence to do just that! In 2014 they returned to their roots and planting their first English vineyard near Canterbury.
Virgile Joly is almost annoyingly perfect. He's ultra organic, with the certificates to prove it. Dashingly good looking, with a beautiful wife (who fell in love with him after one harvest). Stupidly talented with wine, he has glowing reviews from the doyenne of wine writing, Jancis Robinson.
Plus he's not afraid of hard work. He bottled his first vintage himself. 3,000 bottles, Virgile and a funnel. Now that's dedication!
10 years later, he's producing some of the Languedoc's most sought after wines and we're using Angel funding to help him expand his winery and go on to even greater things. Plus his surname brings a smile to our face every time we see it - what's not to like!
