Given Mauricio’s recognised world class winemaking pedigree it was always a safe bet that his Vista Flores would impress – and that’s exactly how it turned out. This is absolutely a wine from the upper echelons that delivers a quality Malbec, just as Malbec should be. Right from the outset this was pure class. On the nose there was an immediate rush of black fruits that carried on through the mid-palate and developed an added chocolate note in delivering a terrific, long-lasting experience. A slight floral characteristic crept in to add a further dimension. A twelve-month maturation in oak barrels, coupled with a further twelve months resting time, clearly gave the wine a roundness and distinct, velvet smoothness. In respect to its Argentinian roots, we paired it with simple rib-eye steaks. However, it may be even better suited to well-hung venison or other forms of rich game. The normal price of this wine may, to some, appear expensive but there is no doubt that the Angel’s price represents outstanding value for money. Incidentally, I would have no reservations over paying the full price for a product of this quality. For us, this is a definite “go to” wine!
