We adore GV as a grape varietal and I have tried many, many examples. And oh dear me, Naked Wines, what am I to say? I recently reviewed the Rotes Haus and gave it my 2nd best GV ever (after Schloß Gobelsberg). Now comes this Mayer, distinguished, elegant, utter depth and quality in every sip. As always with GV, a superb aperitif, and excellent accompaniment to smoked fish platter (salmon from Pinney's of Orford- yum!) and would work well with any not to spicy oriental dishes - more Guandzhong than Szechuan! But Mayer or Rotes Haus? How delightful that Naked gives us such a choice. The only answer is to buy both.
