Quinta do Gradil 2010
About the wine
This special edition wine has been nestling in a secret corner of Luis' cellar for almost 8 years...
- When Luis Viera was asked to make a no-expense-spared exclusive Portuguese red for the luxury Asian market 8 years ago, he pulled out all the stops...
- Carefully selected hand-picked grapes from the foot of the protected Serra do Montejunto hillside vineyards, posh French oak barrels, and lovingly aging the bottles in his cellar for over five years, you name it, he did it...
- Sadly he got let-down at the last minute, so when he asked us to help him out, how could we say no? A super-smooth, ultra-complex red with heaps of dark, concentrated plummy flavours, and aromas of truffles and wild berries. This really isn't one to miss.
- Wines made in seriously limited quantities like these don't hang around, especially at £8.49 Angel price, so if you're going to want in on the action, you'll have to be quick!

Serving advice
Open/Decant at least an hour before serving. Because it is an aged wine, there may be some sediment at the bottom of the bottle which can be eradicated through decanting.
Food match
Mediterranean food, especially red meat dishes. Grilled steak with coriander rice is a perfect accompaniment!
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Luis Vieira
- Luis makes exceptional wines (together with Antonio Ventura) because he gets the pick of the best grapes from the local growers. But how, we hear you ask...
- ...he has the inside knowledge on who has the best grapes. We love his wines, and his bulging little black book of great growers!
- If you're looking to get a whole lotta bang for your buck, look no further... Portuguese wines are truly stunning value, with the only reason for this being that very few are yet to catch on. You're way ahead of the curve, so you might want to get to know Luis now, before he's a household name!
