Ostler Lakeside Riesling 2013
About the wine
Arguably the most interesting white wine variety...
- Just as a diamond forms under hostile conditions, so too does hardy Reisling. From NZ's Lake Waitaki region, the Ostler Lakeside Riesling has retained charm, finesse and class despite its grapes being grown in seemingly inhospitable rocky soils.
- Ostler winemaker Jeff Sinnot has spent vintages in the world's best vineyards only to realise that there's no place like home. He champions his beloved North Otago with its wild, craggy cliffs making it one of NZ's most important growing sites.
- Crack open this bottle in five years; it will be utterly different from what it looks like today. That's the beauty of Riesling. The Lakeside is fragrant with lovely floral and spicy notes, with mouthwatering mandarin and grapefruit flavours. As it matures, it will become beautifully toasty with honey and marmadale flavours.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Jeff Sinnott
-
Jeff dreamt of being a chef, but when the course was oversubscribed he thought he'd give winemaking a try and he never looked back.
-
He recalls the first words that his lecturer said: ‘Welcome to the world of wine’ , and his world changed. He now dreams of passing on his business to his children and grandchildren.
-
‘Being part of a vibrant industry full of clever, motivated & very funny people. I love the technical side of winegrowing from site selection, soil science, plant nutrition, soil water, pest & disease management and more latterly with precision/digital farming systems. BUT, and it's a big but, there's a lot of instinct too. ‘
