Olivier Cazenave Perigord Sauvignon Blanc 2021
About the wine
This top-quality, Loire-style Sauvignon Blanc is our most exciting find of 2021
-
When Olivier told us he’d found a top-quality Sauvignon in Dordogne as good as those from the top French regions, we were intrigued. Historically, Dordogne hasn’t been known for its wines. A short drive from Bordeaux, with lovely hot weather, it’s more famous as a tourist hotspot, but it has all the ingredients to make fabulous white wines. And Olivier saw the potential when no one else did.
-
Taste this and the first thing that comes to mind is the Loire Valley where you get those punchy Sauvignon flavours, with vibrant grapefruit and peach flavours and a good intensity. It’s zingy, bright, and so very moreish... a first-rate wine.
-
The grapes are planted on the best sites in the region, and that’s why you get this character and intensity. It's our first-ever SB from the Dordogne but we're sure that with stuff like this around it won't be long before this underrated wine region is a household name.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Olivier Cazenave
- Olivier Cazenave is a rare breed... the most radical wine grower you'll find in the historically posh and stuffy Bordeaux region.
- He developed a taste for wine aged 17, but Olivier didn’t realise he could turn his passion into a career until he was 40. He started making wine in 2003, in the middle of a downturn in the region “you would have to be crazy to buy a property in Bordeaux in 2003”.
- Olivier may hail from an ultra-famous wine region, but you probably haven’t heard of him... and that’s a good thing. He’s one of the region’s best kept secrets and he wants to prove that you can find outstanding value in Bordeaux.
