Chateau Coutinel Grand Reserve 2017
About the wine
A bold red carrying layer upon layer of red fruited complexity
- Small-scale artisan winemakers in France are going through their toughest years in living memory. These guys rely on bars and restaurants, wine fairs and tourism to sell their wines, so they’ve really struggled. Millions of bottles of wine are stuck in cellars, going nowhere.
- That’s why we’ve decided to help. Our Covid Support Fund wines are supporting some of the most talented artisan winemakers in France, allowing them to earn a fair wage from their hard work and clear cellar space in anticipation of this years vintage.
- Chateau Coutinel Grand Reserve is a rich and refined blend of old vine Négrette, Syrah and Cabernet Franc from a family vineyard established in the 1920s. Négrette is a rare and deliciously dark grape unique to South West France, full of rich, smokey vanilla flavours, smooth blackberries and ripe black cherries.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Anne Arbeau
- Fronton has been home to Anne and her family since the 16th Century. It's a southwesterly French region that also happens to be home to some of the first vines in France, planted by... the Romans. We guess you could say it's a well established set-up.
- With an ever decreasing number of family-owned wineries in the area, what the Arbeaus have is a true jewel. Not only is it the oldest winery of its kind in Fronton but the dedication they have to representing their region and doing it sustainably, is a rare thing indeed.
- Anne and her family work with local producers they've been in close partnership with for years to turn local grapes like Negrette into powerful wines that sing with all the fruit forward, aromatic hallmarks of their landscape.
