Bird on a Wire Syrah 2012
About the wine
Top end Yarra Valley Syrah with a streak of northern Rhone inspiration
- OK, if you think of Aussie Shiraz at one end of the spectrum, and Rhone Syrah at the other, this is pretty much bang in the middle of both, thanks to the unique skills of winemaker Caroline Mooney.
- On the one hand it has the bravado of a top class Aussie Shiraz, on the other, the sophistication and silkiness of top quality Rhone. It's not cheap by any means, but of all the pricey wines we've looked at, this was among the best.
- A wine to hold on to, this will seriously improve with age. Caroline recommends ageing it for 15 years... if you can wait that long!
