Frederic Maillet's Story
"I am delighted to be working with you Angels. To introduce myself, I am an oenologist from Bordeaux High School. In my studies I also followed a DESS of quality management at Marseille for one year.
I became a winemaker after reading Emile Peynaud's book, I am fascinated by this man.
My first vintage is 2001, produced at Tavel. I love the variety of work I get being a winemaker, blending, pruning, driving a tractor...every day is different.
We try to make wines very different and delicate, as our soils are. Often people ask me which is my favourite grape to work with, I would have to say Grenache. It is the Pope at Châteauneuf du Pape !
The first vintage on the Jas de Bressy estate, which was 2005, one of the best we had at Châteauneuf du Pape, so it is probably one of my most memorable winemaking triumphs.
We wanted to get involved with Angel funding because our work in the vineyard is a long term effort, when we plant a new vineyard, it is for future generations. We also use more and more very old grape varieties, like vaccarese and counoise, which give complexity to our wines. We hope the Angels will love our wines."
