Comment on: Wamakers Vallei Bains Way Merlot 2008
Had this little chappie with and without food tonight. Wife was late in, so my prep'd beef strog was cooked by her while she allowed me to watch Japan v Denmark. Pre-food..... this wine has a great colour, maybe lacking on the nose, but dark and smokey, with an abundance of fruit - cherries and other dark fruits, think brambles as maybe the smokiness becomes earthy. So fruity, smooth, not quite creamy, with aftertones of cherry and smoke. With the beef strog which, courtesy of James Martin, was a bit unusual with tomato puree and smoked paprika, it went very well - maybe the smokiness complemented. Quite long legs, but didn't seem like 14.5% when embibed. Sorry Hugo, on the night missed out on the plums and chocolate, maybe next time?
