Villebois Prestige Sauvignon Blanc 2008
by Joost de Villebois

  • Customers have been raving about Joost's Loire Sauvignon, so we've no doubt his Prestige Sauvignon will attract quite a following too
  • Highly acclaimed in his native Holland and his newly-adopted home of France, this Sauvignon is a must-have treat for the summer months
  • Undoubtedly as good if not better than a lot of New Zealand Sauvignons at twice the price

"Being as green as possible in my vineyards is very important to me. We try and use a very limited number of 'products' in the fields, and we also green harvest in order to optimize the quality of the grapes and minimize production per hectare. Finally, we use a technique called 'effeuillage' - the reduction of leafs to increase the sun and light exposure of the grapes. We have a great team here at Villebois, with Thierry Coutant who runs and supervises the vineyards, and Pascal Gibault, our other resident winemaker."

Done the test the other night with the prestige and the normal villebois. Must say, the the Prestige is even better and would pay the extra money for it!

Preferred this to Villebois Loire (which I also liked). Worth the £2 extra in my view.

Last year the ordinaire SV was fullbodied and the prestige was almost OTT, but this vintage is so much better. A wonderful blend of every type of ripe citrus fruit with some caramel and many other early evening in late summer fragrant flavours. We drank this with a meal of veal fried in breadcumbs with a savoury cauliflower and pasta hot saladand it went beautifully. SV with oodles of character

so the last bottle of the 2008. Seared squid served on a bed of rocket dressed with your best olive oil and fresh lemon juice followed by clams cooked with garlic chilli and parsley in a little of the wine. For an SB this wine is slightly sweeter with some melon and honey. With this food there was an absolutely a beautiful balance against the lemon and dry saltiness of the clam juice. It was all far too good to stop there so out came the mixed irish cheeses and the last bottle of the 2008 wine came to a fitting end.
Please please please the 2009 is as good......

This is SO SMOOTH it's incredible!!
There's no nasty sharpness from the wine making it much more approachable than normal NZ Sauvs. Worth every penny.
