Heavy tannins. Surprisingly light in colour for a merlot. Peppery and creamy.

I really did not like this wine at all - maybe I had been spoilt by an amazing red the night before - but it found it quite harsh and just not very nice!

With cashback, this is in effect £8 and as such represents good value for me. I would regard it as a little dear at £12.

I am predisposed towards the dry tannic style and can happily drink it on its own, but it is at its best with food.

It has a good deal of richness and flavour with a decent finish: a good wine, an enjoyable drink and well worth £8.

Poor chap was sampled after we had just finished a bottle of Chateau Grand-Puy-Lacoste, 2004. Both decanted for a couple of hours prior to drinkning. Thought to be rather acidic. We were trying to like it but failed.

Meet the Winemaker

Johan Kruger

"I do not consider winemaking to be a job, it's a way of life. I feel really fortunate to be involved in this wonderful industry. Oh, and it's great that I don't have to wear a tie, in fact, I don't even own one! My father bought our farm in 1980 and I started working the vines with him in 1998. One the bug hit me I couldn't resist making our own wines. Following our first vintage of Chardonnay, I was awarded a Young Wine Maker of the year award, as well as 4.5 stars in Platter and Wine Magazine. I work very closely with my Dad. He's very proud of what we do with the grapes and neither of us would change what we do for the world."
