"I did not choose winemaking, winemaking chose me. I remember picking grapes in 1992 in Stellenbosch, and I was so happy, I knew that if I became a winemaker I would feel like a king. I believe in sustainable farming. This means that whatever I do, I try and leave the soil in a better condition than when I found it. I have realised, however, that whatever techniques you use as a winemaker, none have such a big impact on the process as having a positive energy in the vineyard and in the cellar (one of my key points!). It's vital that everybody you work with focusses on making a unique and special wine, rather than applying fancy and clever techniques."

Love it. Really delicious, cool blueberry, green peppercorn, leafy, cedary nose.
Generous, juicy palate with chalky tannins. Real elegance and charm. Excellent wine, great balance.

Bruwer Raats is once again hitting the winemaking headlines with the latest release of his signature Raats Cabernet Franc 2008 vintage - the December 2010 issue Wine Spectator magazine awarded him a 90 pointer!! No mean feat.

James Molesworth was the wine reviewer on this occasion and to quote his summing up notes on the Cabernet Franc "this textbook, rock-solid version of Cabernet Franc with a showing of a fresh tobacco leaf edge guiding its core of black cherry, plum and blackberry fruit. Mineral and tobacco notes take over on the pure, racy finish."

So it seems like Bruwer is once again providing us with an opportunity to sample another wonderful vintage.

Ok, it has been awhile since my last bottle and I definitely will not be waiting as long again. I have had a love affair with Chilean wines of late but this one could have turned me right around again. Unlike the other Cabernet Franc on offer, this is smooth and silky, and absolutely perfectly balanced with a subtle ripe fruitiness to round off the finish. Love it!

Lovely full velvety brambly fruit. A little musty on first opening but didn't need much breathing time to overcome this it quickly developed into delicious full balanced and fruity wine.
