Lacryma Christi Bianco 2008
by Gerardo Vernazzaro

  • The revived dry version of a historic medium sweet wine, produced from the fiercely local Caprettone and Falanghina
  • Capettrone’s deep coloured skin gives lots of colour to this white, enhanced by 12 hours of maceration in the press before fermentation in stainless steel
  • Ripe white fruit pierced through by lemony acidity, with cut lemon and grapefruit flavours on the finish

"I am a very energetic young man who strongly believes in the indigenous grape varieties of home, the Campi Flegrei region in Campania. This DOC, or designated vine growing region, and of which its flag bearers are the white Falanghina and the red Piedirosso, is right in the middle of Naples’ urban sprawl fighting a lost cause against speculation and real estate, making the vineyards of Chateau Haut Brion in the suburbs of Bordeaux look distinctively rural.

You could call me a true city farmer"

Rich oaky aroma. The richness continues onto the palate with lots of tropical fruits and a long after taste. Lovely wine akin to a rich oaked chardonnay? Good value too.

Yes we enjoyed this one. Deepish yellow, citrusy nose and an unusual slightly steely taste. Very pleasant with a chicken dish

We chose to try this bottle with chicken stir fry dinner. The flavours were decidedly fruity-dry-smooth (in that order) but still with the depth of flavour I would expect from the region. Not too overwhelming for the dish of lamb and I am sure would equally compliment fish dishes of a delicate nature. Ideally I would like to try this chilled in the summer, nice garden wine to be enjoyed in the warm summer air.....

Wonderful stuff indeed. Aromas of dried grapefruit and peach. On the palate, there is plenty of typical Campanian acidity, and an unbelievable amount of body; texturally this wine tastes like it's been undergoing some serious oak-ageing, yet there's not a drop of oak involved! Very, very rich, full and packed with intensely savoury flavour; think wild herbs (oregano, fennel), and lemon oil. Brilliant work Gerardo, keep it up!

The blen makes this more desireable then the higher targeted single variety falanghina, maybe the capettrone gives this wine more rpm and oomph, but as far as I am concerened it still has lots of elegance and finesse<br />Try with veal or fired fish dishes and you won't be disappointed
