Falanghina Colle Imperatrice 2009
by Gerardo Vernazzaro

  • Falanghina from low yielding vineyards on volcanic soils closely monitored by Gerardo
  • After crushing the grapes the skins remain on the juice for 10 hours followed by fermentation in stainless steel and large acacia casks
  • A richer, more complex version of the grape while retaining its signature freshness and structure, Naples’ answer to Chablis!

"I am a very energetic young man who strongly believes in the indigenous grape varieties of home, the Campi Flegrei region in Campania. This DOC, or designated vine growing region, and of which its flag bearers are the white Falanghina and the red Piedirosso, is right in the middle of Naples’ urban sprawl fighting a lost cause against speculation and real estate, making the vineyards of Chateau Haut Brion in the suburbs of Bordeaux look distinctively rural.

You could call me a true city farmer"

A wine I forgot I had and boy do I wish I'd tried this earlier. It's a belter!

Golden in colour, the nose is fabulous. Honey dew melon, honey suckle and...well honey. It did worry me slightly though as thought it might be a bit sweet.

I needn't have worried. It's full, rich and complex with a dry finish. There's lemon, apple and melon in there with a some gentle minerals.

Excellent wine that goes well with shell fish.

A zingy little number this one.
Pleasantly surprised as it is not to my normal taste. Mrs H enjoyed it too.
Refreshingly different or differently refreshing either way would I buy again, yes.

Slightly fizzy in the glass, and a touch acidic for me. Tasted cheap. I was really looking forward to this one - particularly after some of the reviews - and it came nowhere near the mark. The most disappointing I've had from NW by a way.

Just opened this. My first thought was, "smells like cheap Italian white" but then I tasted it. Oh my! It's complex and delicious! And cheap as chips. Recommended.
