What's this about?

The fastest way for us to help you find the wines you'll love (and avoid the wines you won't ) is for you to spend 30 seconds to tell us about your wine tastes. We use these answers, together with your wine ratings to build a detailed profile of your personal tastes. We match your taste profile to our wines taste profile to find the wines that match. Even if it's a grape you don't know, from a place you don't know, made by a person you have never heard of. For example, if you tell us that you like Rioja, we have an Argentinean Malbec that you will adore. And a Spanish Grenache that will blow your socks off.

Not the quallity I expected at the price. Quite a nice wine but doesnt have the depth of flavour many small vineyard Vacqueyras have and have had far better around the £8 per bottle mark.

This is one of my few reviews written completely without letting the wine take the obligatory day long breathe, so I would say this is probably underscored. The reason - a completey unpalatable £20 supermarket St Emilion Grand Cuvee opened on Boxng Day, so I quickly resorted to this Vacqueyras as a substitute. My friend's wife, who is on my New Year resolutions list to convert to a wine appreciator rather than a wine drinker when they move oop North, loved it. I found it a touch overalcoholic on the nose, with a real kick on drinking, but it calmed down later in the evening and the Grenche flavours came through. From reading others' opinions and my own tastings I think many of the Cristia wines will benefit from laying down for a few years, so I'll be making a further purchase to test this out.

Ah, now I've been waiting to review this all year; it appeared as a phantom purchase on my account in Feb '09. Now I've actually bought and consumed it, here are my thoughts.

Gorgeous red-verging-on-black colour, makes you smile as you pour. Surprisingly, not a huge aroma - distinctly etheric whiff. On the tongue? Now we're talking - imagine a huge mouthful of (pre-stoned) ripe, purple/black morello cherries; bite down and let the juice dribble down your chin. That's Vacqueyras. Gives you a lovely, cough-medicine-warmth in your chest for hours after.

Still a little tannic, my bottle was at its best two days after opening; but was past it by day 3. Relatively young, it is drinkable now but best kept for another two years if you really want to get your money's worth. Well worth the wait though.

Really a 4.5 if it wasn't for the price.

"Me and my brother, Baptiste, are the third generation of our family working at Domaine de Cristia. We started working here back in 1999, taking over from my father. The soils were in excellent condition thanks to Dad's biodynamic conception of agriculture. But trying to change old mentalities was a challenge! After our first few vintages, we really found our own style in 2003. That vintage produced some wonderful wine, and The Wine Advocate called us the 'New Superstars from Chateaueuf-du-Pape'. Winemaking is something I'm truly passionate about. And I love working with my brother Baptiste, who is an engine of energy, ideas, positivity and reassurance. But if I wasn't making wine, I'd be a professor of history, or an intrepid explorer a la Indiana Jones!"
