I'm not a champagne fan, but bought four of these as contributions to our golden wedding celebrations. We were given a bottle of Charles de Villers by a friend (allegedly £22.99, but on a two for one offer at Morrisons,) The Claude Baron was superior beyond comparison. Effervescent, but not gassy, with a discernible taste of fruit. Very moreish!

A little too yeasty for our palate. This almost tasted a bit fishy (I'm not a champagne connoisseur - can you tell?) I prefer a drink that doesn't take itself quite so seriously - and that has a less serious price tag! Good value, I'm sure; but not for me.

"My grandfather first started his own production in 1947, and then my father took over the family business. We were always running around with him when we were young, in the vineyards, on the tractors, in the cellars. I really do not thing we had any choice but to carry on the family tradition of winemaking. I fear if we had not, we would have been sent away to a convent! But I honestly cannot imagine doing anything else as it is something I feel passionate about."
